Here is our purchasing schedule. The amounts listed are for one person. We got the suggested foods from “Essentials of Home Productions and Storage” which is published by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints and is available at http://www.ldscatalog.com/ for $1.20. (Items in parentheses are for the baby.)
Food:
Month #1
1 lbs. whole grain crackers, 1 gallon of bottled water, purchase storage containers for the food (1 can of powdered formula, baby bottle with liners, diapers)
Month #2
½ pound protein rich food canned, such as tuna fish, or chicken, 1 gallon of water (package of rice cereal)
Month #3
½ pound non-fat dry milk, 1 gallon of water, rotate 1 lbs. crackers
(baby food for three days)
Month #4
1 pound dried fruit (baby snacks)
Month #5
46 oz. juice, rotate 1 lbs. crackers (sippy cup)
Month #6
½ pound peanut butter
Equipment:
Month #1
Bedding; Blanket, Cloth Sheet, plastic sheet (such as a shower curtain liner), One change of clothing, three day supply of prescription drugs, enough cash to pay for gas and a hotel if we needed to travel for three days, current credit card to use after cash is gone
Month #2
Toiletries: toothpaste, toothbrush, feminine hygiene products, diapers, shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, lotion, sun screen, hand sanitizer, washcloth, camping towels, package of diaper wipes, hair brush or comb
Month #3
First aid kits, basic first aid medications (acetaminophen, ibuprofen, benadryl), etc. and make sure immunizations are up to date
Month #4
Matches, candles, flash light, signal flare, can opener (if needed), dishpan, dishes, utensils, ax, small shovel, bucket, radio, paper, pencil, garbage bags, Ziploc bags
Month #5
Scriptures, Legal Documents (birth certificates, Social Security cards, any other identifying items, insurance policies, etc.)
Month #6
Entertainment items, such as a deck of cards, coloring books, books to read, etc.
